Lex Barker was chosen from amoung more than 1000 actors interviewd by producer Sol Lesser to replace Johnny Weissmuller as the screen's Tarzan. Brenda Joyce would return as Jane for the fifth and final time and 1918's silent film Tarzan Elmo Lincoln appeared in a uncredited cameo as a fisherman. Tarzan fans may find the wearing of "slippers" by Lex Barker to be distracting. While it's understandable that an actor's barefeet may need to be protected during production, the "slippers" are worn and visible in scenes where the actor should have experienced no problem being barefooted. One has to question why this choice of wardrobe was allowed by the director and producers to be so prominent, especially when introducing a new Tarzan seeking audience approval.
