An actor practicing for a film role as Tongo the Ape Man encounters the castaways and uses the opportunity to try and convince them that he is the real thing.

Guest star Denny Miller (Tongo) had portrayed Tarzan in 1959's Tarzan, the Ape Man which was a remake of the 1932 Johnny Weismuller classic.

Denny Miller had previously appeared on the series in the first season episode Big Man on a Little Stick (aired 2 weeks after Gilligan Meets the Jungle Boy) as a surfer named Duke Williams.

This was the 88th episode of the series and the 20th episode of the third season.
