Marc Singer returns as Dar, the Beastmaster in this made-for-television movie which was preceded by Beastmaster 2: Though the Portal of Time (1991) and The Beastmaster (1982).

The Beastmaster's animal companion Rhu is now a lion despite being a tiger in the previous two films.

The cast included actor Casper Van Dien (King Tal), who 2 years later in 1998 would star in Tarzan and the Lost City, thus becoming the screen's 20th Tarzan.

Actor Tony Todd (Seth) had previously appeared on television in an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (S1.E10) and co-starred in the western mini-series Black Fox in 1995.

Filming locations included the Stu Segall Productions Studio in San Diego, California.

Mark Singer would later make guest appearances in the role of Dartanus on 6 episodes of the 1999-2002 television series Beastmaster starring Daniel Goddard as Dar, the Beastmaster.
