Actor John Barrymore (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) stars in this silent film classic loosely based on the on life of the 15th century French poet, François Villon.

The cast also includes actors Conrad Veidt (The Thief of Bagdad), Hans Conried (Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier) and Angelo Rossitto (Jungle Moon Men).

The story had previously been filmed in 1920 (with William Farnum) and then remade in 1938 (with Ronald Colman), both were released under the title of If I Were King.

A surviving print of the film was found in John Barrymore's former mansion by its subsequent occupant, ventriloquist Edgar Bergen.

John Barrymore passed in 1942 at the age of 60.
