Fantasy adventure based on the pulp magazine hero Doc Savage, created by Henry W. Ralston, John L. Nanovic, and Lester Dent.
Directed by Michael Anderson (Logan's Run), the film stars former television Tarzan Ron Ely as Clark Savage Jr. (aka: Doc Savage).
Produced by George Pal (his last film), whose other credits include The War of the Worlds (1953), The Time Machine (1960) and Atlantis: The Lost Continent (1961).
Actor Carlos Rivas (Kulkan) previous roles include that of Romulo in Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (1965) and as Admiral Gioco in an episode of Ron Ely's Tarzan TV series (S1.E13).
George Pal orginally wanted Peplum star Steve Reeves (Hercules) to star in the film and had intended to make several Doc Savage sequels, the first being Doc Savage: The Arch Enemy of Evil.
California filming locations included the Eastern Columbia Building, Los Angeles, and Harold Lloyd's Greenacres Estate, Beverly Hills.
Carlos Rivas passed in 2003 at the age of 78.
