This was second film based on a Jay Ward cartoon to star Brendan Fraser, the first being his role as the title character in 1997's George of the Jungle.

Director Hugh Wilson (Rustlers' Rhapsody) had worked with Brendan Fraser on the film Blast from the Past, also released in 1999.

Filming locations in Québec, Canada include Montréal, Sherbrooke, and Québec City.

Hugh Wilson passed in 2018 at the age of 74.
