Actor/dancer Gower Champion (cast here as the young slave Varius) was also known as a director and choreographer for various Broadway plays including Hello Dolly! (1964) and 42nd Street (1980).

Appearing as one of the underwater swimming statues is Johnny Olszewski who (as an American professional football player) was known as "Johnny O", being amoung the first to wear the jersey number zero.

The film's cast also included actors Michael Ansara (Brave Warrior), Henry Corden (Hiawatha), Douglass Dumbrille (King of the Jungle) and Richard Haydn (The Lost World).

Exterior filming locations for the production included Sky Valley Ranch, Santa Susana Mountains, California and Silver Springs, Ocala, Florida.

Gower Champion passed in 1980 at the age of 59.

Johnny Olszewski passed in 1996 at the age of 66.
