Set in the South African veldt, a safari guide struggles to survive in a harsh environment while being pursured by a group of vengeful African warriors.

The story is loosely based on the experiences of American explorer John Colter who (after an altercation with the Blackfeet in 1809) was stripped and chased in the Jefferson River area of Montana.

Directed by and starring Cornel Wilde, whose many film appearances include Treasure of the Golden Condor (1953), Beyond Mombasa (1956) and The Norseman (1978).

South African actor Ken Gampu (as Leader of the Warriors) can also be seen in 1979's Zulu Dawn (as Mantshonga), 1975's King Solomon's Treasures, and 1989's King Solomon's Mines.

Ken Gampu's father, Morrison Gampu, also appears (in his first film) as the tribe's leader.

Cast as one of the warriors, Eric Mcanyana later appeared as Godongwana in the 10 episode TV mini-series Shaka Zulu (1986).

The production filmed entirely on location in southern Africa, including at the Kruger National Park.

The film was later adapted into a one issue Dell comic book in 1966.

Cornel Wilde passed in 1989 at the age of 77.
