Based on the Alan Caillou 1961 novel of the same name, this jungle action adventure film stars Robert Mitchum, Jack Hawkins and Sabu.

Also an actor, author Alan Caillou later had a recurring role as Jason Flood in five season 1 episodes of the Tarzan TV series starring Ron Ely and appeared as King Sancho in The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982).

Cast as Talib, this was the second to last film appearance for Sabu whose previous roles include that of Mowgli in The Jungle Book (1942) and Abu in The Thief of Bagdad (1940).

Actor David Cadiente (Baka) later made appearances as a Native American in television episodes of Daniel Boone (S1.E2), Hondo (S1.E10, S1.E17), Kung-Fu (S3.E5, S3.E19) and Young Dan'l Boone (S1.E4).

Filming locations include Hawaii and the San Diego Zoo, San Diego, California.

Sabu passed in 1963 at the age of 39.

David Cadiente passed in 2010 at the age of 73.
