Adaptation of the 1855 epic poem "The Song of Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Starring Native American actor Litefoot (The Indian in the Cupboard) in the role of Hiawatha and Alaska native Irene Bedard (The New World) as Minnehaha.

Irene Bedard previously provided the voice of Pocahontas (along with Russell Means as Powhatan) in the Disney animated films Pocahontas (1995) and Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World (1998).

Co-star Adam Beach (in the role of Chibiabos) had previously appeared with Irene Bedard in 1994's Squanto: A Warrior's Tale and 1998's Smoke Signals.

Other screen credits for Russell Means include The Last of the Mohicans (1992), The Pathfinder (1996), and The Pathfinder (2007).

The production filmed on location in Ontario, Canada.

Russel Means passed in 2012 at the age of 72.
