This French-Italian international co-production stars Dorothy Dandridge, who previously appeared with Lex Barker in Tarzan's Peril (1951).
The film concerns a rebellion, led by the captured Tamango (Alex Cressan), aboard a slave ship on its crossing from Africa to Cuba.
Controversial in different parts of the world when released, France banned the film in its West African colonies.
Filming locations in France include Nice and Alpes-Maritimes on the Italian border and Mediterranean coast.
Directed by John Berry, whose later films include Maya (1966) starring Jay North and Sajid Khan.
