Actor Lex Barker was chosen from among more than 1000 actors interviewed by producer Sol Lesser to replace Johnny Weissmuller as the screen's Tarzan.
Returning in the role of Jane for the fifth time was actress Brenda Joyce, in what would be her final film as she retired from acting in 1949.
Brenda Joyce was one of only two film actresses to portray Jane with two different actors as Tarzan. (The other was Karla Schramm in the 1920 silent classics The Revenge of Tarzan and The Son of Tarzan).
Cast in a uncredited cameo as a fisherman is actor Elmo Lincoln, best known as the first actor to play Tarzan (starring in the 1918 silent film Tarzan of the Apes).
Actor Ted Hecht (Pasco) also appeared in Tarzan and the Huntress (1947), Man-Eater of Kumaon (1948), and Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953).
The production filmed at RKO Studios in Hollywood, California.
Brenda Joyce passed in 2009 at the age of 92.
Elmo Lincoln passed in 1952 at the age of 63.
Ted Hecht passed in 1969 at the age of 61.
