Based on the 1855 poem The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the film stars Vince Edwards (TV's Ben Casey) in the title role.

Actor Keith Larsen (cast here in the role of Pau PukKeewis) later starred in the 1955-56 western television series Brave Eagle.

Armando Silvestre (as Kwasind) later appeared in the films Geronimo (1962), Kings of the Sun (1963) and The Scalphunters (1968).

Other film appearances by actor Michael Granger (as Ajawac) include 1953's Tarzan and the She-Devil (starring Lex Barker) and 1955's Jungle Moon Men (starring Johnny Weissmuller).
